About Sidra
I'm a Classical Studies graduate from the University of Edinburgh, heading into a Masters of Research there this September. I have A*s in English Literature and Classical Studies at A Level and spent four years writing analytical essays at degree level, finishing with a 14,000-word dissertation. My love for literature and classics has only grown and my aim is to pursue a PhD after my Masters and go on to be a professor within the field. I'm passionate about keeping the humanities alive and showing students that close reading and essay writing are genuinely valuable skills, not just boxes to tick for grades. My years of experience with essay-based subjects mean I can help students engage critically and intellectually with texts in a way that goes beyond the syllabus.

My sessions focus on close reading of set texts, unpicking language, themes, and context before building into well-structured arguments. For classics, I draw on four years studying everything from poetry and literature to ancient philosophy and ancient history and culture. For essay writing, I will guide students to understand how to structure their essays and hit the assessment objectives so they can show genuine analytical depth and not just surface-level summary. Essay structure and understanding of texts will then enable unseen questions to come naturally. Sessions typically run one to two hours and are aimed at GCSE and A Level students in English Literature and Classical Studies.

A consequence of my enthusiasm to socialise in my first year of university was that my grades took somewhat of a toll. It’s safe to say that one of my courses would have been a disaster if not for my fortune in meeting Sidra. During exam season, she sat me down in the library and went through the course content with me in what can only be described as a Herculean effort on her part, given my own lack of preparation.
After a week or so of studying under Sidra’s watchful eye, the exam came around and I received one of my best first-year grades. What helped me was not just that Sidra understood the material, but also her unwavering patience in dealing with me to the point where she was able to help a rather overwhelmed student get back on track.
Unfortunately for me (and my grades), I didn’t share another course with Sidra. But I can with the utmost confidence recommend her as a tutor; she is calm, reliable, and very good at helping someone who feels like they are lagging behind academically regain their focus and confidence.Sidra is an intelligent and friendly tutor who is wonderful at teaching and will help students of all abilities to succeed
I am a friend of Sidra’s and can attest to her tutoring proficiency. She is able to condense and explain different topics in an engaging and approachable way, and would certainly make an excellent tutor for anyone hoping to boost their English grades!
Sidra was incredibly helpful when I moved from Bangladesh to the UK and needed to get up to speed with English. She was patient, encouraging, and really tailored her teaching to where I was at. Thanks to her I was able to catch up quickly and feel confident with the language. I’d highly recommend her to anyone looking for a tutor who genuinely cares.
Sidra is my friend from university.
She has a great work ethic and is very passionate about classics. She’s kind and considerate and would be a perfect tutor.View more recommendations
