About Margot
Hello! I recently graduated from a Ph.D. in civil engineering from Polytechnique Montréal, after graduating from a Master of Science, and a chemical engineering degree in France. I have tutored friends in life sciences, chemistry and math from high school. Through my grad school years, I was an exam corrector and teaching assistant for several civil engineering classes and laboratory sessions. I was also a math tutor for Le Phare de l’Espoir. During my 10 years of post-secondary education, I have been confronted with many teaching styles and was able to develop different studying methodologies. Being both a student, tutor, and assisting a professor during their online classes during the pandemic, I was able to adapt both my studying and teaching techniques to online tutoring. I have always loved teaching and sharing knowledge with others, and there is no greater satisfaction for me than seeing a student gain confidence in their studies.

During the first session, I familiarize myself with the needs and objectives of the student first and agree on a personalized study plan with them. I like to begin each session by summarizing the concepts that will be covered during the session, then use practical examples and exercises to make the concepts more tangible and to illustrate some solving or memorizing methodologies. I also take time to explain the logic behind the solving of exercises to make it easier to remember when facing new problems. If the student already took exams on the subject, I also like to review the exam questions with them and to take time to explain and solve the exercises they got wrong. After each session, I send to the student a memo of the concepts and methodologies seen during the session and a reminder of what will be covered in the next session. I can teach both in English and French and I am familiar with both French and Canadian educational systems.
