About Berleena

With three years of experience as online math tutor and a background of engineering, extensive 1-on-1 tutoring experience, I specialize in helping students from Kindergarten through 8th Grade bridge the gap between "doing math" and "understanding math."

I help students see the "structural logic" behind numbers, making abstract concepts feel tangible and useful. Also help to break down complex, intimidating topics into manageable, clear steps. I bring that same academic rigor and patience to my K-8 students.

• The "Unteaching" Philosophy: Many students struggle because they’ve been taught to memorize "shortcuts" without understanding the core logic. I specialize in identifying these gaps, "unteaching" the confusion, and rebuilding a rock-solid mathematical foundation that will serve them through high school and beyond.

Math anxiety is real, but it is also avoidable. My goal is to create a supportive, online environment where students feel safe asking questions and making mistakes. Whether your child is struggling to catch up or looking to get ahead, I provide the tools, the logic, and the confidence they need to excel.

About the lesson

I use a "Bottom up" logic model inspired by my engineering background. This ensures that students don't just memorize formulas but understand the structural "why" behind every step.

Grades K - 3: Building Number Sense

At this stage, math is about visualization.
• Conceptual Arithmetic: Moving beyond finger-counting to understanding groups and place values.
• Visual Fractions: Using shapes and "slices" to understand parts of a whole.
• Word Problem Logic: Translating stories into simple equations.

Grades 4 - 5: The Bridge to Complexity

This is where many students begin to fall behind.
• Multi-Step Operations: Long division and multi-digit multiplication without the stress.
• Decimal & Percent Mastery: Relating fractions to money and real-life measurements.
• Introduction to Logic: Beginning to look for patterns and variables.

Grades 6 - 8: Pre-Algebra & Structural Math

I prepare students for the rigors of high school.
• The Variable Shift: Transitioning from "box" math to algebraic variables (x and y).
• Geometric Reasoning: Understanding angles, area, and volume through a "builder’s lens."
