About Shane
I started in IT a decade ago, earning my AAS in Linux Network Administration, followed by a BIS in Technology Management. I've earned industry certifications including CCNA, CCNP Security, Cisco CyberOps Associate, EC-Council Certified Network Defender, and CompTIA CySA+, Security+, Linux+, and A+. I've done on-the-ground IT work at MSPs, as well as independent consulting.
As a teacher, I've delivered hundreds of cert preparation courses for internal IT teams, taught networking and cybersecurity at a college level, and authored the CCST Cybersecurity Official Cert Guide for Cisco Press. My experience and career have always struck a balance between teaching IT and practicing IT in the real world, and my lessons connect to real-world application wherever possible.

I've spent over a decade in real-world IT, delivering cert preparation courses, teaching college courses, and writing books for Cisco Press, and creating courses for Pearson. I'm a strong believer in meeting people where they're at and developing skills via application (not purely memorization).
In a typical lesson, we'll target a skill to develop, address it at a conceptual level, and then work through an applied scenario together. Where it makes sense, students are provided a parallel activity to tackle individually in their own time. We can then circle back on any sticking points in a subsequent session, or I can provide recorded feedback and guidance to watch at your leisure.
I can assist with building IT, networking, and cybersecurity muscles- whether for industry certification exams or to complement college-level curriculum. I teach people who are brand-new to IT, college students, and professionals in all stages of their careers.
