I've known Dezheng since 2013. Dezheng is easy-going, calm, composed, hard-working, and has a very professional attitude all around. A 2100+ rated NM in chess, Dezheng has great understandng of the game. He is proficient in both the theoretical as well as the tactical side of the game. He is patient and precise with his gameplay and analysis, and will be able to provide excellent insights and specific coaching advices as an instructor. Students will be able to clearly understand their strength and weaknesses in their game and improve under the coaching of Dezheng.

I initially met Dezheng over a class we shared in university, and I quickly recognized his talents in leadership skills and taking initiatives. He was one of the people that often constantly participated in conversations in class, and always gave out critical feedback to help others improve.

I remember that we quickly bonded over a course, and he invited me to join his venture capital club. His ambition always inspires me, because not only does he aim to improve by constantly putting himself in situations where he can interact and gain a variety of experience, he also hopes to provide the best club experience to other executives and club members, so he can help everyone to grow together as a unit. Under his leadership, we were able to help educate many students on the topic of venture capital, and other executives were all able to learn important work and life lessons by being a part of his journey.

Dezheng was really good at explaining difficult concepts and breaking down each game into easily understandable components. I was new to chess so I had no idea how things work, all the rules and different strategies seemed really convoluted at first. The most exposure I had prior to my classes with Dezheng was watching chess matches on the internet, and I didn’t think it was really for me because the complexities of the game were hard for me to grasp. Nevertheless, I decided to give chess a try anyways.

My first classes with Dezheng was different than what I expected: we started from scratch and he gave me a simple, big picture breakdown of the rules. We started from there, then he brought his own experience into the lessons and gave me examples of how to effectively utilize each strategy. I originally thought chess was really complicated and it still kind of is, but Dezheng was very patient, and very skilled in breaking down concepts into digestible pieces. In particular, he was good at teaching me how to recognize patterns.

I recommend Dezheng if you want an instructor who is patient and friendly. He understands the nuances of the game and has an intuitive grasp of strategy. Your time spent will not be lost and you will come out knowing more about chess and how to leverage the rules.

Dezheng is an amazing teacher who is able to push you farther in chess than you ever thought you could reach. At first I had low confidence in my abilities, but after a few lessons I was playing chess like I was a super GM. He has a great understanding of the game, and has the rating to back that up. He's super passionate about chess and even runs his own chess youtube channel which you should check out.
