About Thato
I am a founder of different companies and have plenty of corporate experience, I have professional qualifications in economics and risk management and am a North West University alumnus.
I was the former secretary of the North West University Vaal Campus Chess Club and have played at several USSA and SAJCC national tournaments. I also founded the North West University Vaal Open Tournament which was previously called the General Smuts High School Tournament.
I'm currently an avid blitz player and continue to ply my trade online. The reason I am teaching chess is because I have seen the impact the game can have on the individual and how chess can breed strong, resilient and analytical minds. I want to share the joy of chess with the world by breeding successful and masterful chess players who will hopefully share the joy with others.

I have more than 20 years experience playing chess with varied levels of success having represented my region and university at national levels. I love the sport and want to spread the love.
I have a layered approach to training chess:
I will be teaching everything from the basics of understanding the board and the pieces, to how they move and how to master the endgame.
Then I will teach you everything from positional play and tactics.
I will train you on mastering every piece and the psychology you need for tournaments.
Subjects I will include in my lessons are and are not limited to:
Pawn Structure, Piece Development, King Safety, Material, Position, Center Control and mastering Tempo.
I will teach you the rules of the game and how to notate.
Chess is an intellectual labor of love and is very addictive once you know it. Very stimulating and complementary to analytical endeavors such as mathematics.
My lessons are specially suited for beginners and intermediate players who want to build confidence to play and succeed at tournaments.
