About Nivyan
I’m Nivyan, a chemistry tutor with more than 13 years of experience helping high school and college students. I hold a B.S. in Nuclear Engineering and an M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Texas A&M University. At Texas A&M, I served as a graduate teaching assistant for General Chemistry II and Chemistry for Engineers.
I also work as an operations and plant manager in chemical manufacturing, so I enjoy connecting classroom concepts to how chemistry is used in practice. My teaching style is patient, organized, and focused on understanding. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, recognize why a method works, and gain the confidence to solve problems independently.

I teach chemistry by helping students understand the ideas behind the formulas, then practice applying them to unfamiliar questions. Before we meet, I look at the student’s course materials and current difficulties so the lesson has a clear goal.
A typical session begins with a brief explanation or review, followed by guided problems and independent practice. I ask students to explain their reasoning as they work, which helps me tell whether a mistake comes from the chemistry, the wording of a question, or a calculation. Afterward, I can provide focused practice and concise notes to reinforce what we covered.
I tutor high school Chemistry and Honors Chemistry, AP Chemistry, and college General Chemistry I and II. Lessons can follow a student’s class and homework, prepare them for an exam, or teach a topic from the beginning. I adapt the pace and structure to the student, including those who benefit from extra preparation time or a more organized approach.
