About Louise
I am currently working towards my PhD in solar hydrogen generation, across the fields of materials chemistry and photophysics. Prior to this, I completed a research masters at Imperial College London, in the field of green, environmental and energy chemistry and my undergraduate degree in Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge. For me, science and maths are about discussing problems and ideas and using that to further understanding. I hope that by working together in tutoring sessions to work through examples and explore fundamental principles, I will not only be able to help consolidate a student's learning, but also push it further and help them enjoy learning how our world works.
I have a wide range of tutoring experience ranging from working with students in Year 7 all the way through to A-Level. During my undergraduate studies, I volunteered as a teaching assistant in a Year 13 chemistry class once a week. While at school, I was a Science and Maths Ambassador which involved tutoring a small group of GCSE maths students and a GCSE science student, as well as assisting in a Key Stage 3 science class once a week. Most recently, I worked as a Science Mentor on a residential academic summer programme, tutoring a group of six pre-GCSE students in science and maths every day over the course of the programme. While studying as a postgraduate, I have had a number of tutees at both GCSE and A Level.
Tutoring should be tailored to meet the needs of an individual student. In my sessions, I aim to establish which tools are most useful for the student and will adapt the structure of the sessions throughout as necessary. Variety is important so sessions will involve a mixture of working through problems together, discussing topics and consolidating key information for use as revision tools. Depending on what a student is looking for, I am happy to set homework questions to review the following week. My tutoring style is very discussion-based and I encourage students to ask as many questions as possible as I think this is the best way to progress in science.

Perfect! Proactive and kind
Louise is a very friendly, helpful tutor I have been able to catch up on so much content within our sessions. She is proactive and explains the content incredibly well. Each session was based on my personal areas of difficulty and I really appreciate that. If you are looking for an excellent tutor, I recommend her.
Subject : Chemistry
Outcome : I gained more confidence in my weak areas of chemistry.View more reviews
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
Louise is a kind, conscientious and patient person and helping teach others is something that comes naturally to her. She has successfully taught many young adults and children in science and has also helped many of her friends, including myself. Louise is especially good at finding new ways to explain difficult concepts and is a relatable, understandable and easily approachable person. I have been close friends with her for over a decade and cannot recommend her as a tutor highly enough.
Louise graduated from the University of Cambridge with a 2:1, undertaking extracurricular activities such as rowing, ballet and standing on student lead committees. This proves that she had excellent time management, is a well-rounded individual and has all the interpersonal skills necessary to be a successful teacher to all age groups. She continues to excel in her current master’s degree at Imperial, even taking the time to support charities in half marathons. Her degree requires her to frequently work with others and give presentations, of which she excels at due to her clear, concise and excellent oral communication skills. She always goes out of her way to help her tutees and her flexible timetable makes her a good candidate for making and changing tutoring appointments if need be.Louise was a mentor at Cambridge Programmes, a Cambridge based international summer school for children from Hong Kong and Australia, in the summer of 2018. Louise enthusiastically taught all 3 sciences to GSCE level. This was challenging since as students came from different backgrounds, their baseline knowledge differed, but she was able to quickly assess their level and adjust her teaching to allow them all to make the most of what the programme had to offer. She used creative methods to ensure that her students were confident in their scientific ability. Her students were extremely fond of her as she was warm, approachable and highly competent teacher, who made learning fun. Louise was a pro-active and reliable member of the teaching team - particularly supporting the teaching of physics and chemistry by other mentors who were less strong on the subject than Louise who had studied all 3 sciences at university level. She was a pleasure to work with and I recommend her without hesitation.
