About Michael
I have dedicated most of my life to education in chemistry of the highest quality. The challenges involved in achieving a PhD range from complex problem solving, public speaking, clear & concise communication, mentoring and teaching bachelor level science, academic writing of a high quality. Successfully achieving a PhD has provided me with a wealth of transferable skills.
During the course of my PhD I have mentored students on a one-on-one basis from first-year undergraduate through to Masters level students. I was charged assisting students in both practical and theoretical chemistry.
With students at Master's level with creating a project, designing experiments, analysis and interpretation of scientific data using a wealth of techniques (NMR, MS, HPLC/GPC, DLS, SLS, TEM/SEM).
When demonstrating during laboratory classes for undergraduate students, responsibilities included: maintaining safety standards within teaching laboratories, marking exam scripts and lab reports, liaising with students to answer preliminary questions before entering the laboratory.

I like to ensure the nature of the discussion is wholly relevant to the specific examination the student will take. Whilst it is extremely important to develop a deep, conceptual understanding surrounding ideas in chemistry, the potential of overloading students with a large amount of very specific information introduces a risk of not progressing towards successful exam results as effectively as possible. I will fully familiarize myself with the expectations of examiners of the relevant exam boards/institutions as far as possible.
I am a firm believer that 'doing' is a really solid and meaningful way to engage with chemistry. Whether this be in the form of solving or writing problems, writing presentations/elevator pitches, designing hypothetical experiments.
