About Jessica

I am a former chemist and high school chemistry teacher with a Bachelor’s in Chemistry from Cal Poly SLO, specializing in physical chemistry and chemical education. I have extensive experience tutoring college, middle, and high school students in various science and math subjects. I pride myself on helping students understand difficult concepts and feel confident in their abilities. After teaching high school chemistry, I worked in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries, which enriched my hands-on experience. I have now returned to education as a tutor, bringing both my academic and industry expertise to support students. I'm looking forward to helping more students succeed in their academic journey.

This allows us to build a strong foundation before moving forward. Typical Lesson Outline
Review Current Lessons: We begin with the student’s current coursework, pinpointing difficult areas.
Informal Assessment: I ask questions and present sample problems to assess understanding.
Comfortable Learning Environment: I foster a safe space where students can share their thoughts and questions without fear of being wrong.
Targeted Support: Depending on the student’s needs, we either work through problems together or explore conceptual explanations, encouraging questions throughout.
Visual Aids: I use color-coded notes and various visuals to cater to different learning styles.
Real-World Applications: I incorporate my experience as a chemist to bring relevance and excitement to the subject matter.
