About Jake
My experience with tutoring came through UC Davis's academic assistance and tutoring center (AATC). During my time at the AATC, I tutored the lower division physics series to other undergraduates. The AATC recognized my flexibility with other subjects and I started to tutor engineering courses as well. Finally, I attended a ten week long seminar about tutoring strategies that was taught by the AATC.

I tutored college undergraduates in physics and mathematics, so I believe that I am qualified to teach high school and middle school students. My best approach towards teaching was to provide students with a practice problem to solve. Initially, I would let the student attempt the problem on his or her own to gauge how well the student understands the material. Then I gave advice and feedback on parts of the student's solution that were either incorrect or needed more work. If a student was completely lost and couldn't move forward with their solution, then I would backtrack and explain the core concepts behind the problem.
