About Muhamed

I am currently a fifth year student at the University of Aberdeen studying a Master of Engineering degree in Chemical Engineering, and having achieved top grades from National 5 level all the way to Advanced Higher while also attaining strong grades through my years at university, I believe I have the relevant knowledge to help my students achieve their goals, whether they just want to achieve their target grade or want a better understanding of the chosen course. Having recently completed my school education, I am well educated on the different course material and have several resources (textbooks, notes, questions with detailed answers) that are effective in furthering understanding and building a strong foundation in the preparation for exams. Having been a tutor for over five years, both tutoring privately in person and online; I am no stranger to assisting students in gaining strength in their weaknesses. Past experiences range from co-teaching a mathematics class in my final year of school to tutoring National 5 and Higher students in need of extra assistance through my online methods. I also have experience teaching and leadership from coaching youth football teams while I was at school, so I am used to adapting sessions to help students reach their full potentials. While in school, I was House Captain, prefect and a buddy for the first year students, which has helped me develop crucial communication skills with pupils of all ages, allowing me to improve their understanding of important matters, and allow me to better understand their worries and issues.

Having just entered my fifth year as a university student, I am no stranger to the difficulties and stress presented by exams, and how to efficiently prepare within a certain timeframe. Throughout my school education I managed to prepare myself to exceed the grades I needed to progress to university and this has allowed me to learn some of the most effective revision methods, which also transitioned into my university studies. Whenever necessary, I will be using several different resources that I personally used while at school, all of which helped me surpass my target grades. All I ask of my students is their attention and willingness to learn. They cannot learn if they do not make mistakes, and I believe that learning from the mistakes they make during class is far more productive than hours reading notes. Lessons will be held online but will remain interactive through the use of a whiteboard feature, and the teaching method will be flexible to ensure that the student is effectively learning at their own pace. I look to encourage the student to be at ease and to constantly ask myself questions or to further explain a concept, or I may look to ask them to further explain their answers whenever necessary to increase their confidence in their ability. I understand that this may be quite a daunting experience so I always attempt to be friendly and ensure the student is comfortable. Each lesson will follow a similar layout; I will notify the student of the topic being covered prior to the lesson and during the lesson we will spend the following 5 minutes to briefly summarise what we learned in the last class, then another 5 minutes will be spent on finding out the students strengths/weaknesses in the new topic area being introduced, then the majority of the lesson will be us working to build on their current knowledge and confidence, and finally the last 10 minutes will be spent going through some exam style questions, which I believe to be the best form of revision. Most of the lesson will be spent in a 'question and answer' style, predominantly going through different worked examples before allowing the student to attempt questions independently, putting into practice what we have learnt during the class. Occasionally, I may have some simple exam style 'homework' questions for the student to attempt in their own time and we will go over them during the the next lesson. I believe practice is the key to success and this is emphasised through my teaching approach. The student may find it challenging at first, but through perseverance, determination and hard work, I will help them build habits which will help them succeed at all levels.
