About Julia
Math can be challenging, and it hasn’t always been intuitive for me. My study sessions are a judgement-free zone… all questions are welcome!
I remember what it was like to be a student - it can be hard to find motivation to learn these abstract concepts. I try to explain topics in an age-appropriate way, giving releavant examples with real-life applications.
I’ve tutored for over 3 years at UW working at the athletics department. The student-athletes I taught were from very different backgrounds, so I figured out how to teach all different types of learners.
At the end of the day, I want to help others better understand that math really can be used everyday: in art, cooking, sports, business, and more!

My lessons are for students taking math from grade 7 to sophomore-level in college.
I like to go at the right pace for my student - whether they need a refresher on last year’s topics, or they’re ready to jump ahead after acing a few practice problems.
My sessions typically include:
1) Taking/reviewing/revising notes, giving tips and tricks about how to remember things.
2) Going through a few example problems together, step by step.
3) Asking questions to gauge comprehension. If the student has a hard time explaining something, we’ll go over it again to clear up any confusion.
4) Assign a few problems to do individually, during the session. While the student is working independently, I write out my thought process on how to solve the problem. Then, we’ll go over their solutions, talking through each step.
