About Lorilyn
With 12 years as a certified teacher I have taught English Lit & World Lit/Classics in public and private school settings, as well as Writing & Public Speaking at the secondary level. I have assisted many students in developing essays for college application, scholarship application and employment. I have assisted with Test Preparation and submitting research papers. I am certified in English, Drama, Gifted & Talented and AP endorsed. Additionally I am a certified Google Educator.

I like to begin with a conversation to assess students' prior knowledge, and build an understanding by providing metaphors & examples from familiar situations. This helps to demonstrate relevance and gives students a connection to the material. I prefer to start with an inductive process and gradually progress toward a deductive process. Many students learn and retain knowledge more deeply if skills are taught as a continuum, instead of via random "silo" environments. For example, I would have them read "Julius Caesar" and examine persuasive speech before introducing the techniques of rhetoric, evident in Marc Antony and Brutus' monologues.
