About Anja

Hi there! I am Anja, a qualified singing teacher with a London College of Music diploma in Music Teaching. I am also a 3rd year student at The Brighton Academy studying Performing Arts. I’ve had experience teaching from ages 4 - 50, both one to one and in group settings. I have prepared students for London College of Music Musical Theatre exams, in which they achieved distinctions. I have also aided students in preparation for aural sections of ABRSM musical instrument exams.

In terms of performance experience, my most recent and notable theatre credit was as a vocalist in the West End original cast of Adam Garcia’s ‘Emerald Storm’. I am currently in rehearsals for my graduate musical ‘The Little Mermaid’, where I will be playing an operatic Chef Louis and ensemble. Other credits whilst in training include Cinderella in ‘Into The Woods’, Jane Smart in ‘The Witches of Eastwick’ and Understudy Julia/ensemble in ‘The Wedding Singer’.

I have always had a passion for singing and performing, taking lessons myself from age 11. Before my degree I completed GCSE drama and a double BTEC in Performing Arts before going on to complete a foundation course at SOTE Birmingham in Professional Dance and Musical Theatre. I still have that aspiration to perform and would love to help others explore and discover their own passion. My availability will be slightly more limited until July, where I become a lot more flexible but don’t hesitate to enquire or ask any questions.

About the lesson

I aim to ensure that all students leave their lesson feeling like they’ve learnt something new, accomplished, proud of their work and most importantly having had fun! I am very happy to teach any age and any ability, whether that’s a seasoned singer or a newcomer. Enjoyment is my number one goal, so I will make sure to personalise and accommodate to the student’s goals and aspirations for the lessons; whether this might be working on a specific genre, a particular technique, working towards an exam or simply to sing through some fun songs! This will be a constant conversation between us, making sure the student is gaining what they want from the lessons. In terms of styles, I specialise in musical theatre and classical singing however I am also trained to teach any genre (pop, rock, jazz, choral etc). I can also offer specialised lessons to those in musical theatre, wanting to audition for things such as drama school. This would include in depth acting through song training, dealing with nerves, choosing the correct repertoire, finding the right cuts. I would also be happy to offer monologue coaching if this is something that was required by the student and something they wanted/were interested in. I am DBS checked so am able to work with children, and have 4 years of experience working with children one to one and in group settings. I offer online lessons, in person at my place of teaching or I would be happy to travel to you if this was something that you preferred.
