As an Elementary Education ELA tutor, I focus on helping students build strong reading, writing, and language skills through engaging, structured, and supportive lessons. My approach blends proven literacy strategies with creativity and fun to make learning enjoyable and meaningful for every child.
I use the “I Do, We Do, You Do” model to guide instruction:
I Do: I begin by modeling the skill or concept clearly, such as how to find the main idea or use context clues.
We Do: Together, we practice the skill through guided reading, shared writing, or interactive activities.
You Do: Students then apply what they’ve learned independently through a short task, journal response, or reading passage.
Throughout each lesson, I include checks for understanding—asking comprehension questions, having students explain their thinking, or using quick exit tickets. This ensures I can adjust instruction right away if something isn’t clear.
A typical lesson includes:
Warm-Up: A short literacy game, word sort, or review question to activate prior knowledge.
Mini-Lesson: Direct instruction with modeling of the day’s skill (for example, identifying character traits or writing strong topic sentences).
Guided Practice: We read or write together, pausing to discuss and analyze.
Independent Practice: The student applies the skill independently while I provide feedback and encouragement.
Closure: A brief reflection or fun recap (like “one thing I learned today” or a mini quiz game).
My lessons are best suited for elementary students (grades 1–5). who need support in reading comprehension, phonics, grammar, writing structure, or fluency. I specialize in helping struggling readers and writers gain the tools and confidence they need to succeed in school and beyond.
