About Mike
I utilize my undergraduate environmental science degree and my master's degree in teaching biology, which shapes how I approach every lesson. Teaching, to me, isn't just a job but an opportunity to share what I'm genuinely passionate about and help students see science as something exciting rather than intimidating.

My Approach as a Tutor
I bring a hands-on, field-tested teaching style to every lesson, shaped by my background as a biology teacher. Rather than relying purely on textbooks, I focus on making science concepts click through real-world connections, visual explanations, and active learning — the same techniques I use when leading field programs for K-12 students across dozens of school districts.
Teaching Method & Techniques
I start by figuring out how a student learns best — some need diagrams and models, others need to talk through a concept out loud, and some just need a slower pace with more repetition. I break complex biology topics (cell processes, genetics, ecology, anatomy, evolution) into manageable pieces, use analogies from nature and everyday life to make abstract ideas concrete, and check for understanding constantly rather than waiting until a test reveals gaps.
A Typical Lesson
A session usually starts with a quick review of what’s been covered in class and where the student feels stuck. From there, we work through the concept together using examples, practice problems, or diagrams, and I’ll often relate it to something tangible — how a food web actually functions, why a genetic cross works out a certain way, etc. We finish with practice questions so the student leaves with confidence, not just notes.
What Sets Me Apart
Most of my teaching experience comes from working directly with real students in the field, not just in a classroom — which means I’m used to explaining the same concept five different ways until it lands. I’m patient, adaptable, and genuinely enjoy watching a concept “click” for someone.
Who This Is For
Middle school and high school students working on general biology, AP Biology, environmental science, or earth science — whether it’s homework help, test prep, or building a stronger foundation for the year ahead.
