My approach to tutoring is that I find out what the student already knows when I first meet the student so I can determine what approach to take to assist them. Once I know what the student already understands I then explain the basic concept that is being emphasized. Next, I demonstrate and explain the steps to do a given problem and then I give them a problem with guided assistance by me. Last, I let them work independently and have them let me know if they get stuck while I check the problem for correctness at the end. I find this process helps the student best with some flexibility depending on whether I am tutoring a student that learns best visually or with some other learning style. I have 7 years of teaching experience in the K-12 school system in Florida in Private and Public Schools. I have 13 years of experience as a Mathematics Professor at Tallahassee State College and have 25 years of Mathematics Tutoring experience at Sylvan Learning Center, the Tallahassee State College Learning Commons, the FSU Math Help Center and as a Private Tutor. I tutor Math students in Algebra, Geometry, Statistics, Pre-Calculus, Trigonometry, Calculus I & II and Business Calculus.
