Hi! I'm Sarah, and I'm excited to help you connect better with math. I'm from Cleveland, OH, but I taught late elementary to middle school math in the DC area for 8 years. I love art and creativity, and I taught art for two years as well! In my spare time, I love to hike and birdwatch.

Do you think you're "not a math person"? My philosophy is that if you're a person, and you do math, then you are. Growing up, I didn't think I was a math person either, but after taking a job as a teacher assistant out of college, I saw that the teaching methods I had experienced in my math classes had disconnected me from the subject by emphasizing execution over conceptual understanding, and providing very little hands-on experience with the ideas. As a teacher, I seek to provide access to students through number sense routines, visual models, and real-world connections. My lesson plan structure can be adapted to preview upcoming material, or to review current class topics. I specialize in grades 4-9 mathematics. I have 8 years of experience teaching math to grade levels ranging from 4th to Pre-Algebra.
