About Mia
I originally got certified to teach English as a second language when I was an undergraduate at Wesleyan University. During my time as an undergraduate, I also had several different tutoring positions. After graduating in 2016, I spent an academic year living in Madrid, Spain, teaching English to small groups, teaching 1-on-1 lessons, and helping students practice their speaking skills. I spent the past year serving in a K-8 school in Boston, where I was a tutor and assistant teacher and helped lead an after school program. As part of the after-school program, I developed and led several lessons. I attended many professional development workshops through this job, and I learned how to become an even more effective tutor and teacher.

I believe that learning should be exciting, engaging and, most importantly, fun! I have always done everything in my power not only to make my students feel comfortable in their learning environment, but also to be excited to learn. Through my experience teaching and tutoring in various different settings, I have learned that every student learns slightly differently, and it is very important for a teacher to pay close attention to his or her students, and to adjust his or her plan based on how the student responds to his or her teaching. I also believe that it is very important to give students the opportunity to be creative, no matter what subject they're learning. As an AmeriCorps member with City Year Boston, I tutored a focus group of 6 students. I used a different tutoring style for each student, ensuring that I provided each one with excellent, individualized education. With all 6 of my students, I saw improvements in comprehension, ability focus, and overall grades. In Madrid, Spain, I taught English as a foreign language in small groups and individually. I taught students between the ages of 5 and 15, and saw improvements in student comprehension, grammar and vocabulary skills, and speaking skills. Tutoring is not only something that I enjoy, but something that comes naturally to me. I believe that one of the most important parts of being an excellent tutor is forming a positive and trusting relationship with my tutees. Through getting to know tutees, I have been able to become the best tutor possible for each individual student.
Recommendations

Mia was teaching one year in my school. She brought with her a positive attitude and engaging personality. She has helped initiate and organize different school activities to promote the use of English in communicative contexts, which was a great success.
Since her first day teaching here, Mia has contributed towards getting the work of training students to pass the ELF Cambridge Examination PET and KET. She also has the ability to inspire students to explore their gifts, and I am confident that she will continue her positive influence on many students to come.
She has a unique and wonderful rapport with the teachers and students in the school. She is extraordinarily talented at connecting with her students and educating in a creative and engaging fashion.
She has excellent communication skills, which is evident when examining her success in creating strong teacher-student relations or connecting with students who require extra care.
She has been teaching with students with different backgrounds applying the theory of multiple intelligences in the classroom to cater to diversity efficiently. She also works very actively in the elaboration of the lesson plans with the rest of the teachers. She elaborates very clear objectives and sequences the activity to reach the goal easily.
