About Rolonda

I am a certified English Language Arts teacher with five years of teaching experience and a strong passion for helping students succeed. I spent four years teaching 7th grade ELA and am currently teaching middle and high school literature for Grades 7–12 in a virtual learning environment. I hold a master’s degree in education and am currently working toward earning my specialist degree. I strive to create a supportive, encouraging learning environment where students feel confident asking questions, building skills, and growing academically.

As a tutor, I believe students learn best when they feel supported, confident, and actively involved in the learning process. My approach is student-centered and engaging, focusing on building both academic skills and self-confidence. I meet students where they are and provide clear, structured instruction that helps them grow without feeling overwhelmed.

Teaching Methods and Techniques

I use a mix of explicit instruction, guided practice, and discussion-based learning. I break down complex reading and writing skills into manageable steps and use real-world examples, relatable texts, and student interests to keep lessons meaningful. I also use questioning strategies, modeling, and immediate feedback to check understanding and correct misconceptions in real time. For struggling learners, I incorporate scaffolding and skill reinforcement, while advanced students receive enrichment and higher-level thinking tasks.

Typical Lesson Structure

A typical lesson begins with a brief check-in and review of previous skills. I then introduce the focus skill (such as main idea, theme, inference, or writing organization) using a clear explanation and example. Students practice the skill with guidance before working independently. We end each session with a short reflection or exit question to reinforce learning and set goals for the next lesson.

What sets me apart is my experience as both a classroom teacher and an online tutor.
