About Eric

Hi! I'm Eric. I was born and raised in New York City. From an early age, languages fascinated me, particularly the English language. I would immerse myself in literature, poetry, essays - literally any reading material I could get my hands on. I became an avid listener of hip-hop music because I admired the verbal fluency of the artists. And I would write whenever I could get a chance: stories, essays, journal entries. I experimented with words tirelessly, and saw the English language as a laboratory for testing and trying out new things, experimenting with new words and new phrases, and using it to communicate both simple and complex ideas.

I'm a huge nerd who is also very much into philosophy, mathematics, physics, and chess.

My first teaching job was in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program in New York. I tutored residents who wanted to earn their high school equivalency diploma. I taught algebra, geometry, reading comprehension, essay writing, science, and history. All the men in my class passed their exam and received their diploma before completing the program.

Years later, I received my CELTA certificate while living abroad in Europe. I assisted many adult speakers of other languages in improving their English conversational skills, sometimes for their careers and other times for their personal enjoyment.

My methodology begins with you, the learner. Every learner is unique. Each one has their own set of strengths and challenges, assumptions and experiences, and styles of learning. The need for regular feedback is one thing they all have in common. I will test you. I will challenge you. I will make things fun and interesting by utilizing a variety of resources and materials, from music and competitive games to writing drills and creative exercises. I will make things difficult, but achievable. The point of all this is to evaluate your progress and provide you with the feedback you need to keep growing and reaching the goals we set for you.

Mistakes are a natural part of learning. So is forgetting what you've learned. I will devise lessons and homework that ensure you will encounter the same principle, rule, or concept in different contexts. Therefore, when you forget something you've learned the first time, the second time you see it, you will remember it. Forget it the second time, and you will remember it the third.

No matter what your motivation or goals for English learning may be, I will tailor my approach to your individual needs.

Book a trial lesson so we can get to know each other better and decide if I am the right match for you. I'm friendly, easygoing, and love meeting new people
