About Hugo

During my career, I taught students of different ages, from 10 to 30 years old, and from middle school to university. I am accustomed to private lessons as well as magistral courses, up to 35 students in France. I also gave a lot of practical lessons, in biology, geology and chemistry. I encountered a large variety of profiles, and I am sure to find a way to teach you something. My teaching methodology is quite adaptive, but it comes with one fundamental principle, if you don't understand why you're doing something I will take all the time it takes to make you understand the goal behind the knowledge you're trying to learn. So, in general, I begin my lessons by asking my students what they know of the subjects, to identify their difficulties, which takes 5 to 10 minutes depending on the level of the subject. Then, we take a look at the lessons and exercises of the student. I like to have them before the lesson to analyze them but it's not mandatory. We try to define the problem, and to give some explanations if something is not understood, and after that I give exercises similar to what they've already done, with some twists, to test their comprehension of the problem, generally more difficult than the ones they already have. And I will adapt my methodologies to the student's ways of learning, by heart, by doing exercises, or, my favorite, by making a lot of analogies.

About the lesson

About me, well for my background, I did two master's degrees, one in research in chemistry and biology, and one on pedagogy, biology and geology. I also began a doctorate, which permitted me to teach some practical works to university students, but I stopped it because I preferred to teach. I won the CAPES, which is the competition to become a teacher in France, ranked 197th over 1500 candidates. Then, I taught in secondary school one year before moving to Canada with my fiancé. With my range of experience, I am confident in finding the best way to teach you whatever you need. I tend to be a friendly teacher, as long as the trust is shared between me and my students. Show me that you work, and you try to do the best you can, I'll be happy for you and with your results, and I believe that you will learn. I'd like my students to get perfect grades every time, of course, but my goal is to teach you something and to give you methodologies of work.
