About James
I graduated with a Double First in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge in 2016. In my first degree I specialised in Chemistry then went on to do a master’s in Physical Chemistry. Outside of work, I enjoy playing football and golf.
I have experience tutoring A Level Chemistry and Mathematics as well as International Baccalaureate Mathematics in group and one-to-one situations. I have worked for a volunteer tutor orgainsation and an International Baccalaureate specific revision company, tutoring groups of international students, many of whom do not have English as their first language. I am currently tutoring A Level Chemistry and Maths. I have been DBS/CRB checked.
I encourage students to reflect back to me what they are learning after I explain concepts. This can take a range of forms from attempting questions which we then discuss to students explaining topics back to me and answering my questions. Different students prefer different methods and I adapt my tutoring to suit individuals. This approach allows me to focus on areas in need of improvement and also enables the student to see their progress, giving them confidence. I also provide preparation and mock interviews Oxbridge/university applications.
