It completely depends on your learning pace and your particular problem. I start by asking what you need help with. Some students dive right into a specific question on their homework or practice problems for a test. Some are lost and have no idea what the last few lectures were about. Typically we will read a page or two from the textbook together. From there, most of the homework problems break down to concepts that we just read. This leaves time for practicing the math and getting into trickier problems. Finishing homework problems will boost your confidence. Most likely, I will ask you to explain back to me what you learned so that you have the chance to digest it more and see for yourself where your knowledge gaps are.
