About Mahle

My name is Mahle Mashalaba and I am a BSc graduate in Biodiversity and Conservation Biology from the University of the Western Cape. Mathematics was one of my strongest subjects throughout my school career and formed a core part of my scientific training at university, where I studied statistics, data analysis and quantitative research methods.
I come from a background where I had to work hard for everything I achieved, putting myself through university while working full time taught me discipline, resilience, and the value of showing up consistently. I bring that same work ethic to every student I work with and I take your progress personally.
I am patient, structured and genuinely invested in the people I tutor. I do not make students feel embarrassed for not understanding something, there is no such thing as a silly question in my sessions. My job is to meet you where you are and get you where you need to be, at a pace that works for you.
I am proficient in English and isiXhosa and can tutor comfortably in either language. I am available for both online and in-person sessions across Cape Town, with flexible scheduling to fit around school and family commitments.
Whether you are a primary school learner building your number confidence for the first time, or a Grade 12 student preparing for finals, I am here to help you show up to that exam knowing you are ready.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is built around one goal, making sure the concept actually makes sense to you, not just for tonight's homework but for the test, the exam, and the next topic that builds on it. I don't believe in just giving answers. I work through the problem with you step by step until the logic clicks, and then I ask you to try it yourself so we both know you've got it. I tailor every session to the individual student. Before we dive into content, I take time to understand where you're struggling, how you've been taught at school, and what's coming up for you assessment-wise. Some students need someone to slow down and rebuild from the basics. Others just need someone to sit with them and work through exam papers under a bit of pressure. I adjust to what you need.
I teach Mathematics and Mathematical Literacy from Grade 1 through Grade 12, covering the full CAPS curriculum. Topics include number operations, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, functions, statistics, probability and calculus. I am equally comfortable helping a Grade 3 learner build confidence with numbers and helping a Grade 12 student push for a distinction.
Lessons are offered in English and isiXhosa. Sessions are available online via video call with screen sharing, or in person across Cape Town. I am flexible with scheduling including afternoons, evenings and weekends, and I welcome both once-off exam prep sessions and regular weekly arrangements.
