About Arnav

I am a UCL Economics student with a strong academic background in mathematics, having achieved A*s in both Mathematics and Further Mathematics at A-level. I'm also a Senior Maths Challenge gold medallist and have qualified for the British Mathematical Olympiad twice, which reflects both my problem-solving ability and my deeper interest in the subject.

Alongside my academic background, I have prior experience teaching and coaching, which has helped me become patient, clear and adaptable when explaining challenging ideas. I understand that every student learns differently, so I always aim to create a relaxed and supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and working through mistakes.

I take tutoring seriously and prepare lessons carefully around each student’s needs, whether that means strengthening core understanding, improving confidence, working through difficult topics, or preparing effectively for exams. My goal is not only to help students improve their grades, but also to help them feel more capable and confident in maths.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is friendly and student-focused. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and saying when something does not make sense - maths can feel like a scary subject, and getting things wrong is part of improvement! I try to break topics down clearly and build confidence step by step to make sure the student understands and is comfortable applying the reasoning, rather than just memorising the methods.

In a typical lesson, I usually start by identifying what the student is finding difficult, usually through a quick discussion or past-paper problems. I then explain the topic in a clear and simple way, work through examples with them and gradually move towards them solving questions more independently. I also focus heavily on exam technique, common mistakes, and how to recognise what a question is really asking.

Lessons are usually 1 hour, although I am happy to offer longer 90-minute sessions for exam preparation or students who want more intensive support.

I am currently studying Economics at UCL and studied Mathematics and Further Mathematics at A-level, achieving A*s in both. I have experience teaching and coaching through tutoring and chess coaching, which has helped me refine my ability to break down and explain complex topics in an accessible way. I always try to match my teaching style to the individual student, because different people understand things in different ways.

My lessons are aimed at GCSE and A-level Maths students, including students who want to improve their confidence, strengthen weaker topics, prepare for exams, or push towards the highest grades.
