It is the lesson plan that allows you identify key junctures where you need to pause and take a dip stick test of how much your students have absorbed and internalised. Think of an apt question to ask at that juncture and record it as part of the lesson plan. Now when you go to the class, follow the lesson plan to the T. Try not to deviate from it as far as possible.
A second step that is usually done is to take up key aspects and repeat it in the form of a quiz or a quick recall the next class.
