About Brian
Brian Williams is a dedicated student success professional with nearly a decade of experience serving first-generation and low-income college students through the TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program at the University of South Florida. As a Senior Advisor, Brian combines deep empathy with practical strategies to help students thrive both academically and personally. Born and raised in St. Petersburg, Florida, Brian is also a proud alumnus of the TRIO Upward Bound program—an experience that helped shape his commitment to educational equity and his passion for supporting students who, like him, are working to become the first in their families to graduate college. He holds a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Nova Southeastern University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Florida State University. His background in counseling and human development deeply informs his student-centered, relationship-driven advising style. Brian’s work has earned him numerous recognitions, including the Individual Outstanding Staff Award (2023), Team Outstanding Staff Awards (2018 & 2022), and the Provost’s Award for Excellence in Advising (2023). He also received the Student Success Award in Development and Engagement and is a graduate of the TRIO Emerging Leaders Institute—further reflecting his leadership in the field of student support. With a passion for creating inclusive spaces and empowering students to lead and succeed, Brian continues to go above and beyond—not only helping students reach graduation, but making sure they’re prepared to thrive beyond it.
