About Louis
I am a French and History graduate from the University of Reading who achieved a 2:1 degree in French and History and an A* in A-Level French at Bournemouth School. I have previously lived in France for 6 years in between the ages of 9 and 15. During this period I was educated in a French school so am completely bilingual. I have prior experience working with children as well as tutoring in French, English, Maths and History.

Language learning is as much about confidence as it is about knowledge. I want to give pupils that confidence through immersing them in the French language so they are comfortable with it - English is banned for the duration of the lesson !
While I aim to run bespoke lessons around the pupils needs, written expression and comprehension are a secondary behind practicing oral expression and oral comprehension. I believe engaging with a pupil and having conversations about topics of interest represents a more intensive and better value lesson than completing exercises from an exercise book.
A typical hour long lesson for a student GCSE level or higher would begin by going through vocabulary and grammar from the previous week. The lesson would then revolve around a short piece of writing on an agreed upon topic that the student had prepared. We will initially go through this written work together and identify areas to improve in regards to grammar, conjugation and spelling. Following on from this we will be having a discussion, including questions from myself about areas of that topic and related topics that were highlighted in the pupil's writing task. Throughout this portion of the lesson we will be identifying relevant and useful words to learn so as to be continuously improve the pupil's vocabulary.
