About Rutendo

I am a biotechnology student from New York City, I have studied STEM subjects since I was 13 years old and have gained meaningful experience. Some of my experiences in STEM include:

Featured in Forbes July 2023.
Presented my research on phage therapy at MIT's Global Bio Summit 5.0 (2021).
Premedical intern at a field hospital (2022).
Taught scratch coding to over 1000 kids (for 3 years).
Taught Medical Biotechnology (developed from Brown University's curriculum) to high school and university students through Junior Medical Academy (for 1 year).
Taught high school-level Biology and Chemistry (for 3 months).

In addition to my experience, I am a curious person who is fond of connecting with different people(like you!) and I possess the following skills: leadership, communication(oral and written), adaptability, organization, and meticulousness.

About the lesson

My services are for students in Middle school and High school.

I have 5 years of experience in science communication including working as a STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) tutor and science communicator for global STEM organizations. I am passionate about bridging the gap in STEM education and have developed the ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and engaging way for any learner (science or non-science).

My approach to teaching is first to build a relationship with a learner to understand their learning style and knowledge gaps in the subject area so I can customize the lessons for them. I love to use real-world examples to explain concepts so that a student can visualize how we can use concepts like coordinate geometry outside the classroom and make the lesson more exciting. I also use a lot of visuals such as diagrams to explain processes in chemistry or biochemistry for easy memorization. I also encourage active learning which allows the learner to ask questions, and work on some exercises. Most importantly, I provide feedback to track the learner’s progress.

I am a bubbly and optimistic person, and I will bring this personality full-on to lighten the mood. I am more than happy to assist the student outside my tutoring hours!
