About Alexis
For several years, I’ve found real joy in helping others deepen their understanding of biology. I began as a teacher’s assistant, where I learned to recognize what teaching methods truly resonated with students and how to adapt lesson plans to meet their needs. What draws me to biology—and to teaching it—is the pursuit of understanding why things happen. For example, why is the mitochondrion known as the powerhouse of the cell? These questions are not just facts to memorize—they’re gateways to a deeper comprehension of how life works. As a tutor, my goal is not only to help students succeed academically but to inspire curiosity and critical thinking. I aim to equip them with the tools to ask meaningful questions and build confidence in their ability to understand complex material—skills that will serve them in any subject they pursue.

As a biomedical science student, I believe success in science comes from consistent engagement with the material, effective note-taking, and repeated exposure. My tutoring sessions are structured and student-focused. A typical lesson involves reviewing class notes, working through assigned homework, breaking down complex topics with the help of mnemonics, and supplementing the material with curated videos or visual aids. I adapt my sessions to each student’s learning style, ensuring they not only understand the content but retain it. What sets me apart is my exposure to a variety of science educators, which has helped me recognize common gaps in explanations. I bridge these gaps by using clear, concise scientific language and relatable analogies. I also guide students in developing research skills, including how to identify credible sources for academic writing. My tutoring is best suited for middle and high school students, whether they need extra support to keep up or are looking to deepen their understanding in subjects like general biology, anatomy, environmental science, genetics, and introductory biotechnology.
