About Shazia

I have many years of teaching experience and private tutoring. With varying ages from the age of 4 onwards. My students all had varying commands of understanding and comprehension of English. I was preparing class schedules and lesson plans as well as homework in advance. As well as finding topics of interest, which matched the curriculum but maintained student interest in class. I found introducing quizzes and games often helped with breaking the ice. Thereby, allowing students to gain confidence to communicate between one another without anxiety and embarrassment. I often arranged competitions into teaching to provide a healthy competitive desire to succeed and learn. I found it very helpful to have one-to-ones with students to assess potential weaknesses and help to better understand the student’s command of English. I often held evening classes voluntarily to help those students that were struggling and those preparing for examinations. All in all, my goal was to help students gain proficiency and confidence in the English language. My role also possessed a significant element of helping people achieve skills required for them to become work worthy. I prepared classes for core subjects including IT, numeracy and of course literacy using the curriculum. Reviewing application forms - both physical and online, preparing for interviews, mock interview sessions, reviewing skills needed for successful interviews and therefore employment. Preparing students regarding first impressions, preparations for travel, gaining references and general appearance was also integral to the teaching sessions I gave. In addition, reviewing different social media platforms, to identify methods by which applicants could strengthen their contacts and enhance job satisfaction. Further to my duties as ESOL tutor I was also mentoring young adults who were struggling whilst at college. These particular young people were often going through a difficult time in their lives, or were struggling academically. My role often required meetings with the students, tutors and parents to plan and revise action plans in the best interest of the student. Often this required face-to-face meetings with the students to determine ongoing issues and find a resolution. Sometimes this was successful and on occasions not. For those students who were academically underachieving I made study plans, weekly meetings to review class attendance and subject matter. I have many years of tutoring particularly in English, chemistry and biology.
