About Daniela

I am a fourth-year student at Bryn Mawr College majoring in biology as well as following the Pre-Med Track. In 2015, I became a tutor at Kumon, an education company, where I mostly taught basic mathematics and reading to a wide range of students between the age of 6 to 15. At Kumon, I focused on teaching my students to learn at an independent level while stilling them with mathematical and reading skills that would help them succeed in these areas. Furthermore, I graded my student's classwork and homework, which allowed me to individualize their tutoring lesson as well as the homework I would assign. Also, I was in charge of testing newly enrolled students to Kumon to analyze the reading and mathematics level the student should be placed in.

After tutoring at Kumon for three years, I started my college career at Bryn Mawr College. In 2019 I became a biology teacher assistant for students enrolled in the postbaccalaureate Premedical Program. As a teacher assistant, I supervise and help students with their biology labs and lab reports. Furthermore, I prepare samples and reagents to support biology laboratory research.

About the lesson

I enjoy teaching for many reasons! As a biology major, I have spent a tremendous amount of time studying and teaching others biology and chemistry. Through this experience, I have learned and acquired many different teaching and learning methods that have helped me, and I believe will also help many other students. However, I am aware that everyone has a unique way of learning, which is why I love to give students different learning methods so that they can choose to pick the one that works best for them. For example, some students might learn best by using mnemonic devices, such as learning the phases of Mitosis by memorizing "I Picked My Apples Today." However, other students might find a self-reference method to be more beneficial. Overall, I would love to teach my students different methods of learning biology so that they can be comfortable using these methods outside of tutoring.
