About Anika
I have lived in America and India for significant portions of my life. As a 14 year old girl in India, I witnessed firsthand the amount of external and internal pressures children face to gain some vague "success" defined by Indian society. My main goal as a tutor is to ensure that no student succumbs to the restrictions of the education system, regardless of their residing country. Studying Biology at UCI, I saw myself rediscovering an intense passion for learning (especially Biology and Chemistry) that had been previously squashed by the ruthless education system. I want my passion for knowledge to be contagious to my students, helping them realize that learning new skills is indeed a rewarding experience like no other.

As a tutor, my main focus is to increase students' confidence in their ability to succeed. By sharing both my knowledge and encouragement, I want to provide a safe space for children to feel comfortable with their abilities. Even when I wasn't tutoring for money, I always loved lending a helping hand to my friends in my classes. Although my friends thanked me profusely, I am equally grateful because they were the medium through which I discovered a genuine love for teaching.
For a typical Biology lesson, I request that my students send me their lecture notes or chapters in advance, so we can go over the material together. As we sit down together, I ask them how much they know about the subject and allow them to explain their perspective to me first. Then, I explain material that they are unsure about, while asking them questions to make sure they are retaining the information. As a tutor, I place large emphasize on active forms of learning; therefore, at the end of every lesson, I ask my students to explain to me what they learned. This not only ensures that they are fully understanding concepts, but gives them a safe space to showcase their knowledge.
