About Alyssa
Hello! My name is Alyssa, and I have a passion for helping students build confidence and develop a love for learning. I have experience teaching both in the United States and internationally, giving me the opportunity to work with children from a variety of backgrounds and learning styles.
One of the most rewarding experiences in my teaching journey was traveling to the Dominican Republic, where I taught children in a local community. This experience strengthened my creativity, adaptability, and ability to connect with students while making learning engaging and meaningful.
In the U.S., I have served as a long-term substitute teacher in both 1st grade and kindergarten classrooms for several months at a time. During these placements, I planned and delivered lessons, supported students' academic growth, translated for ESL students and created a positive, encouraging classroom environment. I have experience teaching foundational math, reading, and writing- I understand that every child learns differently.
My goal as a tutor is to help students feel confident, supported, and excited to learn. Whether your child needs homework help, extra practice with one subject or a variety, or a boost in confidence, I strive to make each lesson engaging, personalized, and encouraging. I look forward to helping your student reach their goals!

A typical lesson will go as follows:
1. Lesson teaching the topic through demonstration & modeling to students. (I Do)
2. Completing examples & discussions as a team. (We Do)
3. Providing students with independent problems to work through. (You Do)
4. Go over the correct answers & check work.
5. Have student give me a short synopsis of what was just taught & learned.
I use a lot of modeling in order to show students how to retain what they are learning, as well as methods to increase retention. If there is ever frustration present, or a student is struggling to retain the lesson, we will pivot until we find a method that works best for them!
These lessons are for students in grades K-3, those in algebra, and ESL students.
