About Jessica

As a tutor, my job is to facilitate your learning and academic growth to the best of my ability. I have previously tutored elementary-middle school-aged students in Math, Reading and Writing/Language Comprehension, and Sciences. I also have experience teaching Intro to Medical Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Molecules/Cells/Tissues, Medical Genetics, and Immunology at my University. My students have given positive feedback about my methods, and I strongly believe that having a young tutor allows them to better connect with me and invest in their learning. I want to create a positive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and seeking help when needed.

About the lesson

I follow a student-centered approach to learning by focusing on students' strengths and weaknesses, formulating lesson plans around what topics they find the most difficult. A combination of lecturing and productive activities meant to answer their questions is what I find most effective. Different students have different needs, so my lectures are adjusted to their type of learning (visual, auditory, verbal, etc.). A typical lesson plan in my classroom would be initially discussion-based. I like to ask students what they find to be the most interesting and difficult in a topic to encourage them to learn more about what they enjoyed and answer questions about what they found difficult. My lessons are varied and open to elementary-middle school-aged students as well as some select college courses.
