About Jessica
I am a bilingual (English/Spanish) educator with over seven years of experience teaching elementary students and supporting literacy development. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Belmont University and a Master of Education from Vanderbilt University. My expertise is grounded in the Science of Reading, with a focus on phonics, reading comprehension, literacy intervention, and biliteracy instruction.
As a current Academic and Culture Lead and former kindergarten and first-grade teacher, I have helped hundreds of students build strong reading foundations and grow into confident learners. I use evidence-based practices, personalized instruction, and ongoing progress monitoring to ensure each student receives the support they need to succeed.
I am committed to creating a positive, engaging learning environment where students feel challenged, supported, and capable. My tutoring approach is grounded in the Science of Reading and tailored to each student's individual needs. I use explicit, systematic instruction in phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension while creating engaging lessons that build confidence and motivation. For Spanish learners, I incorporate language development strategies that strengthen both literacy and communication skills.
A typical lesson begins with a brief review of previously learned skills, followed by targeted instruction, guided practice, and opportunities for independent application. I continuously monitor progress and adjust instruction based on student performance and goals.
What sets me apart is my experience as both a classroom teacher and instructional leader in biliteracy education. I have taught kindergarten, first grade, and fourth grade, designed literacy systems, mentored teachers, and led school-wide literacy initiatives. This gives me a deep understanding of how students learn to read and how to address challenges effectively.
My lessons are ideal for Pre-K through elementary students who need support in phonics, early reading, literacy development, reading comprehension, English language arts, or Spanish language learning. I also work with multilingual learners and students who need targeted reading intervention or enrichment.
