About Tamara

My name is Tamara (but you can call me Tami) and I was born in the north of Argentina, but I currently live in the heart of Buenos Aires. I speak Spanish, English, Portuguese and a bit of French. Currently learning Italian! I have a degree in International Relations. I have also received a certificate in ELE (Español como Lengua Extranjera) education and pedagogical grammar. Also, I have lived in both New York and Istanbul. One of my biggest passions is traveling and talking to people from different countries. I have traveled all around America and Europe, and in my journey I was able to share my country's culture and language with the people I've met, understanding how important language is in connecting with other people and cultures.

  • Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

I speak Spanish fluently because I was born and raised in Argentina. Growing up in the country naturally immersed me in the language and its culture, allowing me to develop a strong command of Spanish.
  • Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

When it comes to emblematic figures representing the Spanish language and culture, one name that comes to mind is San Martín. San Martín is a historical figure who played a significant role in Argentina's fight for independence, making him a symbol of the country's culture and language.
  • Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

There's a typical word in Argentine Spanish that I particularly like, and that is "boludo." It's a slang term that can be used both affectionately and derogatorily. Its versatility and cultural significance make it an interesting word to explore within the language.
  • Why does speaking this language matter to you?

Speaking Spanish is important to me because it connects me to a wide, warm, and beautiful culture that I love-Latin American culture. Through the language, I can fully engage with the people, literature, music, and traditions of the Spanish-speaking world.
  • What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

The main difficulty in learning Spanish lies in the abundance of regional variations and vocabulary differences across Spanish-speaking countries. However, I find that exposing myself to diverse sources, such as literature, films, and conversations with speakers from different regions, greatly helps navigate these variations and enhances the learning process.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

I have a valuable anecdote from my language learning experience during my school days. There was a time in my AP Spanish class when the radio used to play the listening exercises broke. As a solution, I had to take matters into my own hands and record the listening section myself. It was a creative and memorable experience that showcased my resourcefulness and adaptability in language learning situations.
  • How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

Traveling has been an incredible way for me to increase my skill and knowledge of the Spanish language. By immersing myself in Spanish-speaking countries, I had the opportunity to interact with native speakers, experience authentic contexts, and gain a deeper understanding of the language's nuances. Each trip brought new insights and improved my language abilities.
  • What makes you a Superprof in language?

As a Spanish tutor, I've got the language skills down pat. I'm a native speaker, and I've spent years diving deep into the language, so you can count on me for accurate guidance. I've also got plenty of teaching experience under my belt, which means I know how to tailor lessons to your unique needs and keep things interesting. Patience and empathy? Yep, those are my superpowers. I understand that learning a language can be tough, but I'm here to support you every step of the way. Oh, and I've got some tricks up my sleeve too! I'll bring creativity to our sessions, using all kinds of fun resources and activities to make learning Spanish a blast.
