About Alex
I have been writing my own short stories and poems from a young age and have been reading for even longer. I worked on the school's literary magazine in high school, eventually becoming the editor-in-chief my senior year. At university, I have taken numerous literature studies and creative writing classes. In most creative writing classes, I read and analyzed a text to identify what details or stylistic traits made that text what it was. Then I would incorporate those traits into my own writing for that week's assignment. I understand that writing and close reading can be very difficult and that that difficulty could vary significantly from text to text. With that understanding, I show my students the same patience I would want someone to show me when I'm having trouble.

I work with students from all levels who need help with literature assignments, whether that involves writing or reading. My preferred teaching method is listening to what my students are struggling with and then working alongside them while guiding them through the questions that arise. I support my students and help them reach their own conclusions rather than give them the answer or insert my ideas into their heads. As such, I adapt to the thought processes my student pursues while ensuring they are discovering the core concepts that need to be imparted to them.
