I have two passions in life, to perform and to teach. I love to meet new people and help them in their journey, and I get a lot of joy from seeing students progress under my tutorage and flourish into budding musicians. The lessons themselves vary with different students. We will cover how to practise efficiently, how to read music, how to develop your listening skills and understand music harmony and theory. Most importantly we will discover what works for you and equip you with the skills to be able to learn on your own.

Cannot say enough about Gavin in such a short space. He has worked wonders with my two daughters. They have learned so much in so little time and absolutely love their piano lessons. Gavin is patient, kind and encouraging and motivates my girls through positive reinforcement.
Really happy.Gavin is not just an incredibly good musician, he is a fantastic communicator and great fun as well. You'll learn while you laugh, and his wealth of experience in live performance and composition give him a very wide set of specialisms within multiple genres- I've known him to work within classical, soul, metal, hip hop, rock, folk, jazz, blues- he has a fantastic versatility.
Gavin has been teaching my teenage daughter violin for five years, and I started lessons with him as well two years ago. He is totally reliable, very professional, and more than that, he's a great musician and makes us feel motivated to practice. He has a really friendly manner, has taken the trouble to get to know us and our learning styles, and we really look forward to our lessons. He's got great attention to detail, too, which means you will learn good technique (this is not a given with all music teachers!).
I've been taught violin by Gavin for nearly 4 years and have progressed from complete beginner to grade 5, with grade 6 theory. His focus on technique rather than racing through exams has ensured that I really feel as if I'm progressing with the instrument, as well as obtaining distinctions in every exam I've taken so far. Developing my technique in this way has also supported my playing in folk sessions and music groups outside of lessons, and he's both extremely knowledgeable and friendly (a rare combination for a music teacher...)
