About Michael

Growing up, reading didn't come naturally to me. In fact, I didn't truly learn to read until I was in the second grade. While this presented challenges, it also led me to discover my true escape: the vibrant worlds of comic books, fantasy, and Sci-Fi. These weren't just stories to me; they were lifelines, illuminating paths to infinite realms of imagination. I was drawn not only into the adventures they depicted but also into the art of storytelling itself. This profound connection compelled me to become both a writer and an English major.

It's a misconception to limit literature to just traditional books or canonical texts. From manga to movies, every piece of content that tells a story, ignites imagination, or evokes emotion is a form of literature. With this philosophy at heart, my teaching approach is holistic. I incorporate various media – be it written, visual, or audial – into my lessons. By doing so, I emphasize the omnipresence and importance of literature, whether it emerges from the pages of a classic novel, the frames of a movie, or the lyrics of a poignant song.

Through my own journey from struggling to read to majoring in English Literature, I've come to understand and value the diverse avenues through which people connect with language and stories. And in every lesson I teach, I aim to instill this broader appreciation for literature, ensuring that each student finds their unique connection to the vast tapestry of narratives that shape our world.

Teaching Method and Techniques:
My approach to teaching is both structured and adaptive. I prioritize laying a solid foundation in grammar and basic English writing for elementary students. With fun and interactive exercises, I ensure young learners grasp the essentials while also cultivating a love for the language. I blend traditional literary analysis with thematic exploration as we transition to more advanced English Literature lessons tailored for high school and college students. In all my lessons, whether it's teaching the basics or diving deep into literature, I incorporate resources and tools to keep the sessions engaging and enriching.

Typical Lesson Plan:
For elementary students, a lesson might start with a fun grammar game or a short story reading. We then discuss the story's events, encouraging students to write simple summaries and identify essential literary elements. For older students, lessons begin with a discussion about their reflections on the assigned reading. Structured analysis of character development, literary devices, and thematic elements follow. Each lesson ends by connecting the text with real-world applications, ensuring students see the practical relevance of what they've learned.

What Sets Me Apart:
My versatility in teaching a wide range of ages and proficiency levels is a unique strength. From introducing young minds to the beauty of the English language to guiding advanced learners through the complexities of literary texts, my comprehensive approach is designed to cater to each student's needs. My academic credentials and a genuine passion for teaching ensure that every student, whether grasping the basics or dissecting intricate literature, gets the best learning experience.

Target Audience:
I offer lessons to a broad spectrum of students. Young learners in elementary school looking to strengthen their grammar and basic writing skills, high school students exploring in-depth literary themes, college students majoring in English Literature, or even enthusiasts with a keen interest in the subject. My teaching style is adaptive, ensuring that every student's needs are met with the right approach and resources.
