Sacha and I have been friends and colleagues for over 30 years. We met when we first got into the business. I became an actor and Sacha became a writer and director. We have collaborated over the years, on a number of film projects that he has both written and directed. Sacha is passionate and knowledgeable about all aspects of film making, and has a wealth of experience to share.
I have participated in a couple of talks with his students at Pinewood Film Studio, where I was able to see first hand how calm and encouraging he is with his students. How to describe Sacha Bennett?

Sacha Bennett is, before anything else, a friend. But he’s also a director, writer, producer, actor, location manager, executive producer, and catering consultant. He has, over the years, gained such experience in the industry that he knows the ins and outs of the British film industry better than most.

He’s had the privilege of meeting, along his path, Thierry Volant, who taught him humility and how to deal with an impressive ego. An ego that is, for the most part, justified considering how much he’s done over the years and will be doing in the coming years.

Sacha knows what he is talking about but always carries a witty example or anecdote to support his point. During my time with him at the Met Film School, he’s had the time to show me how to talk with an actor but also to find the meaning/motivation behind a scene. Because the scene and what’s written on the page is one of the most important aspects of filmmaking. A great many other things come to support the script. However, without a story, you only have a collection of beautiful yet meaningless pictures one after the other.

Sacha has become a friend over the years, but he started as a teacher. An approachable, professional, and funny person to be with. And I wouldn’t be where I am today without him.
