About Beth
I hold a Master's in Education from Alder Graduate School of Education and a degree in Chemical Engineering. After spending 15 years in the technology industry as a software engineer and manager, I transitioned into education and taught high school math and science in the classroom last year.
This unique combination of technical expertise, educational training, and recent classroom experience allows me to provide both deep subject knowledge and effective teaching strategies. I understand the curriculum, the challenges students face, and how to make complex concepts accessible.
I'm committed to creating a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and taking intellectual risks. My approach is patient, encouraging, and focused on building genuine understanding rather than just memorizing formulas.
All sessions are tailored to each student's individual needs, learning style, and goals. I work with students across all ability levels—from those who need extra support to catch up, to those preparing for honors and AP-level coursework.
References from current and former students and families are available upon request.

My Teaching Approach
I believe every student can succeed in math and science with the right support and approach. My goal isn't just to help students pass their next test—it's to build lasting confidence and deep understanding that will serve them throughout their academic careers.
My Teaching Method:
I focus on meeting students where they are and building from their existing knowledge. An essential part of my approach is forming genuine relationships with my students—I take time to understand what motivates them, what their interests are, and what their goals look like. When I know what excites a student, whether it's sports, music, art, or their future career aspirations, I can connect math and science concepts to things they actually care about.
Rather than just showing students how to solve problems, I help them understand why methods work and how concepts connect. This approach, grounded in my Master's in Education and reinforced by classroom teaching experience, helps students develop true mathematical and scientific reasoning rather than just memorizing formulas.
My 15 years in the tech industry also allows me to show students real-world applications—helping abstract concepts feel relevant and practical.
A Typical Lesson:
Sessions begin with a quick check-in about what the student is currently working on in class and any specific challenges they're facing. I encourage students to send materials ahead of time so I can prepare targeted support.
We then work through problems together, with me asking guiding questions that help students discover solutions themselves rather than simply giving answers. I adjust my pace and approach based on each student's learning style—some students need more visual explanations, others benefit from step-by-step verbal walkthroughs.
Each session ends with a brief review of what we covered and a preview of what to work on before our next meeting, ensuring continuity and reinforcing learning.
What Sets Me Apart:
My unique combination of credentials—Chemical Engineering degree, Master's in Education, and recent high school classroom experience—means I bring both deep subject expertise and proven pedagogical skills. I understand the curriculum, I know how concepts build on each other, and I've worked directly with the challenges students face.
I create a supportive, patient environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. I invest in getting to know each student as an individual, understanding their motivations and interests so I can make learning personally meaningful. Many students tell me they appreciate that I never make them feel bad for not understanding something—instead, I help them see mistakes as learning opportunities.
Who My Lessons Are For:
I work with high school students in grades 9-12 across all levels:
Mathematics:
Integrated Math 1, 2, and 3
Algebra I and II
Geometry
Pre-Calculus and Math Analysis (including Honors)
AP Calculus AB and BC
Statistics, Honors Statistics, and AP Statistics
Science:
Chemistry
Honors Chemistry
AP Chemistry
Test Preparation:
SAT Math
ACT Math
I work with students who are struggling and need to catch up, students who want to get ahead or prepare for upcoming courses, and students aiming for top performance in honors and AP classes. I also have daytime availability for homeschool and online school students who need flexible scheduling.
Whether a student needs help understanding fundamental concepts, wants to excel in challenging coursework, or is preparing for standardized tests and AP exams, I tailor my approach to their specific goals and learning needs.
