About Nathan
I am (seemingly) the keenest student of Lubomyr's music, writing the only articles and tutorials that I am aware of about his music and essentially producing the only amateur performances of his works on YouTube - which makes me very easy to find. Lubomyr changed my life when I first heard him 4 or 5 years ago, and I am extremely passionate about working to preserve this dying, yet very new, form of piano music. This music offers hope to all non-virtuosi: to people who love the piano, but struggle to understand the classical tradition at the highest level. It is unfortunately very difficult to play the truly moving pieces of the classical greats, and a culture of elitism surrounds that music world at the concert level: Lubomyr's music is much more accessible and personal, and seemingly struggling and demotivated students (as I was) can find joy in even the simplest of his pieces.

I will hold 40 minute lessons exploring the basics of Lubomyr Melnyk's technique and philosophy, with his early practice pieces. We will focus on the physicality and on the state of mind; at the entry level, one starts to enjoy a meditative experience at the keyboard. The goal is to stimulate basic interest and awareness in this continuous music, with the hope that very keen students will go on to take lessons from Lubomyr directly. The lessons are for pianists of absolutely all levels, from beginner to professional. I would say a minimum starting age is 10-12, as a certain mental maturity is required to grasp what's going on here. Multiple professional pianists, such as Emilie Capulet, have heard me play and confirmed this music to be different enough to be challenging to the classically trained, yet it truly can be picked up by anyone; in some sense, the less classical training you have, the easier it may be to learn Lubomyr's music. I have been highly regarded at the dozens of concerts for this music I have performed in the University of Oxford, at Balliol, Magdalen and Oriel College in particular. I co-run the Balliol College music society and have engaged with and interested many professionals in this music during my time there. Throughout my journey I have moved dozens upon dozens of people, as this music is powerful enough that even amateur performances can, when heard live, shake people and make them understand how different it is: it is not uncommon for people to tell me that the sound was impossible and that they had no idea a piano could sound like that.

Nathan tutored me throughout my A levels with maths, further maths and physics. He would always help me tackle my problems by breaking them down and going through the topic/ question step by step while still letting me use my own thinking, after this he’d explain why and how the method used to solve said question actually worked which helped my understanding and my problem solving of the topic further on. On top of this he would often find me tougher questions around the same topic to thoroughly test if I had understood his teachings at the same time being still able to answer my questions. Nathan is a very good tutor, very knowledgeable as well as patient, allowing me to feel comfortable to ask any questions that I had. 10/10 would 100% recommend !!!!!
Nathan is my partner and he is one of the kindest, most patient people I know. He is always ready and willing to help me with any problems I encounter in my maths work, and does the same for his other friends too. As well as being enormously knowledgeable in many areas of maths, he is a great teacher and is always willing to go over things again or try to reframe it if you're struggling to understand a concept.
