About Darren

Throughout my 8 years of experience in education, most if not all of my students have enjoyed the learning experience I have provided either as a private tutor or public educator as a 9th-12th Math Teacher. I have a strong passion and understanding of mathematics and can clearly explain why certain steps are taken, and even show you shortcuts for problems once you fully understand the key concepts of why a shortcut works. I also have heavy experience in AP Math courses as I have scored a 5 on AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics, and also taught AP PreCalculus and AP Calculus AB.

About the lesson

I have worked in education for over 8 years! During my undergraduate years, I worked as an AVID tutor at the high school I graduated from as well as a private tutor. I then moved on to my student teaching while obtaining my Master’s in Education and teaching credential from UCLA and now currently work as a High School Math teacher in LAUSD. I am extremely adaptable to all levels of students and can quickly gauge a student’s strengths and weaknesses regarding math. I have a strong passion for math and I bring the same excitement for learning and logic to my students! A typical session would include reviewing previous topics and assessing the student’s mastery of the learning topics. The lessons will begin with in-depth explanations and step-by-step instructions of problem solving and big ideas. Frequent checks for understanding will be given to ensure students fully master a topic before jumping ahead. Homework will be provided so that students can get the practice they need to ensure mastery of learning targets. My current available schedule is for summers only, so I am the ideal tutor for those who are looking to either catch up on topics/courses they feel that they need extra support in, or to get ahead on a course and potentially skip ahead!
