About Xian

I am a 3rd year university student currently studying a Bachelor of Science at the University of Queensland, majoring in Applied Mathematics and minoring in Physics, alongside Secondary Education. My academic background has given me a strong foundation in mathematics, problem-solving and scientific reasoning. In high school, I also studied Mathematics, Specialist Mathematics and Physics, so I understand the level of thinking and practice students need to build confidence in these subjects.

I am interested in tutoring mathematics because I enjoy helping students understand difficult concepts in a clear and patient way. I know that every student learns differently, so I like to adapt my explanations to suit each student’s needs, confidence level and learning goals. I can explain concepts in both English and Chinese, which may be helpful for students who feel more comfortable learning with bilingual support.

I have also completed school placement experience and taught in front of a class, which helped me develop practical teaching and communication skills. I am most comfortable supporting students from Years 7 to 11, especially in mathematics.

About the lesson

My lessons are designed for students in Years 7 to 11 who would like support with mathematics. In high school, I also studied Mathematics, Specialist Mathematics and Physics, so I understand the challenges students may face when learning mathematical concepts, problem solving and exam-style questions.

My teaching approach is student-centered and personalized. I like to understand each student’s current level, learning goals and areas of difficulty before planning the lesson. I use clear explanations, worked examples, guided practice and step-by-step scaffolding to help students build confidence and independence. I can teach in both English and Chinese, which can be helpful for students who understand concepts better with bilingual explanations.

A typical lesson is around one hour, but it can be extended to one hour and thirty minutes if the student needs more time for revision, homework support or exam preparation. I also prefer to prepare lessons in advance based on the student’s needs, so the session is focused, organized and useful. I have completed school placement experience and have taught in front of a class, which has helped me develop practical classroom communication and teaching skills.
