About Monica
"Hobbyists often struggle to find a teacher who understands the balance between technique and genuine musical expression. Playing piano became a second language for me alongside my vocal career.
I hold a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance with a Piano minor from Berklee College of Music. My background in musical theater informs how I teach keyboard skills to singers and soloists. Students frequently come to me seeking help with accompaniment skills or complex music theory.
I work with many adults who are returning to the keys after long breaks. These sessions emphasize sight reading and scales to build confidence. You will find that I keep things light while we tackle the mechanics of the instrument. Expect a relaxed atmosphere where your goals dictate the pace of our work."

"Patience is rarely the most important factor when learning to read music, because consistent repetition is the true key to success. I integrate weekly practice modules into every class to ensure you have clear direction between our meetings. Because I draw on 13 years of teaching experience, I can easily simplify complex theory for grade exam prep like ABRSM or Trinity. We explore memorization techniques that actually stick rather than just rote learning.
My approach involves balancing your specific interests with the foundational skills needed for better sight reading and technical proficiency. Whether you are an adult learner or a hobbyist, we focus on making the keyboard feel like a natural extension of your hands. You will spend time on arpeggios and chord voicings that provide immediate utility in your playing.
I monitor your progress across these weekly modules to adjust the difficulty of our upcoming sessions accordingly. Your development relies on the small habits we establish during these 1 on 1 hours. Everything we cover is intended to make you a more capable and independent musician."
