About Maria Yolanda

Hi! I’m Yolanda, a Spanish teacher from Spain currently living and teaching in California.

I have a Master’s Degree in Spanish as a Foreign Language (ELE) and 9 years of teaching experience 5 years in Spain and 4 years in the United States. During these years, I’ve worked with students of different ages and levels, and I’ve especially enjoyed helping children and young learners feel comfortable and confident using Spanish.

I currently teach in a Dual Immersion program in California, so I’m very familiar with bilingual education and with students who are learning Spanish and English at the same time.

I’m a very patient and positive teacher, and I always try to make my classes enjoyable and practical. I don’t believe that learning a language should feel like doing extra homework!

Outside of teaching, I love doing cross training, traveling, discovering new places, and learning about different cultures. I also really enjoy sharing Spanish culture, food, traditions, and everyday expressions with my students.

I’d love to help you or your child improve your Spanish and, most importantly, feel more confident speaking it!

About the lesson

My lessons are personalized to each student. Before we start, I like to know your level, what you would like to improve, and what your goals are, so we can make the classes useful and enjoyable for you.

Depending on your needs, we can work on conversation, pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, reading, writing, or simply speaking Spanish and becoming more comfortable using the language.

For children, I like to make lessons fun, interactive, and age-appropriate. We can use games, stories, pictures, conversations, and different activities so they are learning without feeling like they are sitting in another school class.

I also work with bilingual and heritage speakers who understand Spanish but want to improve their speaking, vocabulary, reading, or writing.

If you are an adult, we can focus on whatever you need, whether that’s learning Spanish from scratch, preparing for a trip to Spain, improving your conversation skills, or simply becoming more confident speaking with native speakers.

All lessons are online and one-to-one, so we can adapt everything to your level and your goals.

I’m originally from Spain, so you’ll also get to learn the Spanish language as it is actually spoken in Spain, together with some of the culture and little expressions that you won’t always find in a textbook.

Perfect! After only a couple of sessions with Yolanda, our six year old daughter’s letter recognition, sound, decoding and reading skills have already shown improvement. She’s patient and also knows how to keep our daughter motivated . Highly recommend!
