About Joe
I teach English at a State Secondary and run a private practice of creative writing and English tuition. I also run creative writing workshops in the city, provide editorial guidance to fellow writers and assist PhD candidates through upgrade processes and thesis writing.
With a PhD in creative writing, numerous prizes for my work and a growing list of publications, my experience is rich and diverse. I provide tuition for GCSE, A-Level, postgraduate and beyond, with tuition aimed at specific academic targets (11+ preparation; GCSE prep and revision; submission of personal statements for university applications; drafting and revising critical and creative projects), as well as more broad mentoring and guidance.

I've taught creative writing as a group worker in a drug and alcohol rehab, delivered a lecture series for postgraduate students, provided one-to-one editorial support to published novelists and currently teach across Key Stages 3-5 in Southeast London. I am a writer myself, and deeply passionate about the power of literature both as an expressive tool and an essential pathway through every other discipline. Literature speaks to art and philosophy and sociology and politics, and so mastering the subject - developing a critical and creative intelligence - is an essential practice.
I offer tailored support to students: those re-entering education and in need of a brush up; those gaining formal qualifications for the first time; writers and academics who seek guidance with a specific project or young learners who need additional support. Lessons are bespoke; an initial meeting (offered for free) will inform the specific methodology.
